Screw Diamonds! You Can Be the Sparkle, and Shine Like Gold on Your Wedding Day
Hey there fellow strange-birds. Ya’ll yellow has become one of my favorite colors of all time. It’s mostly because I’ve truly come to appreciate the way it looks against brown skin. This mood board pays homage to that fact. Find the right shade of yellow, and you can shine like gold on your wedding day! Now, this girl would never throw away a diamond, but why rely on one ring, on one finger, for your shine, when you could light up the room from head-to-toe!
If You Wanna Shine Like Gold, This Inspo Pic Couldn’t Be More Perfect!

There’s a lot of inspiration pics I find that I want to hang on my wall. This one is no exception, it’s a true work of art! When I spotted it on @itsthestylehive‘s Instagram page, featuring the stunning @madisinrian, I felt like I’d won the inspo pic lottery! She looks so incredibly regal without any pretense. This lady cannot and will not be bothered. She’s going to take her time walking through these ruins while shinning like she’s been dipped in gold. I fell in love with the shimmer of her skin, the play of light and shadow, and the slight sheerness of her dress. It was a no-brainer for me to build a wedding around this image.
The Mood Board

All The Things You Need to Know…
The Bride & Groom Fit
This dress ya’ll! When I talk about finding the right shade of yellow, this is exactly what I mean. And of course it’s made by FeNoel, a crazy talented designer, who makes all the clothes I want to wear. If you’re big on fashion, then this won’t be a new name to you, but if you haven’t checked her out, you definitely should. The whole website makes me want to go on vacation right now! The best part, this Silk Sundown Dress is only $698, (don’t roll your eyes at me. I know $700 isn’t chump change, but when we’re talking about a wedding dress, it’s a frickin steal!)
So, first things first, by the time I started putting this mood board together, this exact kaftan by Tufafii was no longer available. But don’t worry lovelies, there are so many beautiful options to choose from on the site, that’ll still work for this look. Plus, there’s always my favorite tip – if something’s not available, take the pic to your local seamstress and see what they can do. I’d looked at some all yellow kaftan suits, but in the end, I loved the contrast of the yellow and black together. I felt like it did such an amazing job expressing the play of light and shadow that I adored in the inspo pic. Outside of that, look at these two side-by-side and tell me your wedding pictures wouldn’t be legendary!
The Details You Need to Shine Like Gold on Your Wedding Day
Girl, Get You All The Sparkle & Shine!
Things I love about this $455 Tuxedo Rose Gold Sandal from Amina Abdul Jillil could fill this whole post! The nude ankle strap that would actually be nude against darker skin tones? Check. Sparkle without being too overdone? Check. The most perfect bow perched above just the right amount of toe cleavage? Yep! This shoe would be nothing but perfection shinning down the aisle as you walked.
A solid gold earring would of course work for this, so if that floats your boat, feel free to head that way. But when I saw these multi-color beauties by Lola Ade, I couldn’t deny their impact! They’re also the perfect way to introduce some additional color into the wedding scheme. I latched on to a beautiful shade of deep teal, (you’ll see this come full circle with the bridesmaids and a bit of décor later). And while these exact earrings no longer seem available on the Lola Ade site, she has tons of others that would work in the same way.
Nothing Like A Little Flower Power
I first saw this floral boa in a Martha Stewart Weddings Magazine years ago, and it never left my brain. I loved the idea so much! It was such an unexpected way to bring florals into your wedding. And then recently, I stumbled upon the cover of Susan McLeary’s book The Art of Wearable Flowers and was reminded how dope an idea this is. Pushing flowers past the realm of standard bouquets, into this more creative statement piece, is so in line with everything Black2Wed is about. Either one of these would make your wedding look pop, and result in some iconic pictures.
Your Face Mask Can Be Fierce
Christie Brown makes some incredible looking clothes, (don’t believe me, check out her website). But her accessories are on a whole other level, too! Being that face masks probably aren’t going anywhere anytime soon, why not make yours as fierce as possible? If you want to shine like gold on your wedding day, then I’m thinking your face mask should, too. Yes, the color on this one is super saturated, but what I really adore about this gold stencil mask is the punch out detail, with bits of gold sparkle shinning through. Really, what more could you ask for?
Teal The End of Time
I’d mentioned bringing in some teal because of those stunning Lola Ade earrings, and I wasn’t joking. This $255 Andrea Iyamah Takwa convertible dress works in so many ways. Beyond the complimentary jolt of color to this yellow-gold wedding, this beauty is convertible. That means your girls can tie it around them in whatever way suits them best. Plus it comes in one size – which means your ladies don’t even need their measurements to order this beauty.
Since we’re already on the teal train, why not borrow from it for your décor? This gauze table runner from Etsy seller LinenLark hits the mark in so many ways. The sheerness of it harkens back to the FeNoel dress. The color is the exact shade of teal I wanted. And just like the pic, I’d spread it on a natural wood table, and set it with some gold chargers and flatware.
Hair to Help You Shine Like Gold at Your Wedding
Spend some time with me and you’ll come to learn that I’m a natural girl when it comes to hair and makeup. I’m in awe of folks who rock a full face beat, but I’m not sure that would ever be my comfort zone. And when I think about a wedding, then sure, I’d like a slightly pumped up look, but nothing feeling like I’m swinging past my normal self. That’s why I love this hair and makeup look so much. The diagonal side poof I found on naturallycurly.com would truly show off the jewelry and wearable flowers featured in this mood board. Plus, I love that the sides of the hair are slicked, but still maintain some texture and wave. I hate when hair looks so shellacked, that it looks like doll hair. Let your natural texture shine through!
The skin looks flawless in this makeup, and I’m in love with the fullness of the eyebrows, and the pinkish nude lip. You glam anti-brides are out there, so I’m looking at you to add a little gold glitter/shimmer to the eyelids, or maybe as a highlight on the cheeks. But if you’re normally a no-makeup girl like me, then this simple polished look is right up your alley.

I just like the helpful information you provide in your articles
