It’s a Dope Day for a White Wedding
Hey there fellow-strange birds, I already know what you’re thinking. A white wedding on Black2Wed.com? But hear me out. Yes, I’m a sucker for color, (check out my colorful wedding dreaming to see what I mean), but it’s not just color that gives me life. What floats my boat is uniqueness and originality. That’ll forever be a winner in my book. So yep, while that usually means moonwalking right past traditional wedding white, I do make exceptions for dopeness. You’ll see what I mean once you dig into this post. The bridal look is pure fire! This is legit what I think of as the anti-bride’s answer to a white wedding.
Classic Inspo Pic for a New Classic White Wedding
Ya’ll know it always starts with an inspo pic for me. When I found this one, it gave me Black Girl Magic-Breakfast At Tiffany’s vibes. Better yet, Dorothy Dandridge, Carmen Jones vibes. Model @veronika_payne looks so effortlessly pulled together. The confidence is radiating from her skin – and what bride wouldn’t want to feel the same way for her wedding? For anyone else, this inspiration probably would have resulted in a more traditional bridal look. But for me, it got my creative gears going to move that tradition in the B2W direction. I hope ya’ll love it as much as I do!

All The Things You Need to Know…
Bride & Groom Fit
There are some designers that live in my heart. In my dreams, my closet is filled with their clothes. Cushnie is at the tippity-top of that list. If I were to ever fall in love with a white wedding dress, it would for sure be one of hers. But the beauty is, she’s so diverse in what she designs that I could wear this stunning suit instead! I mean ya’ll, look! The fit on these pants! The seeming down the front paired with the wide leg is so slimming. But it’s the cloak-like finish on the sleeves, paired with the crop on the jacket, that fully has me sold. It’s perfectly classic, while also perfectly bad-ass. There isn’t a price listed on the site, but I’m guessing this lovely is probably in the $3,000 – $4,000 range. Yes, it may seem a tad steep, but unlike most wedding fits, this is one you not only could, but should, wear again and again.
Sometimes picking out the suit look is my favorite part. A black tux is cool, but kinda boring. And why be boring when you don’t have to? Especially when designers like Ikire Jones are forever bringing the fire! This Lekan sport coat is a classic cut with a bold print. It couldn’t be more perfect as part of the anti-bride’s answer to a white wedding. Plus, next to the Cushnie suit, ya’ll would be shutting the wedding game all the way down! Now look, this one is an investment at $1,200, but this sport coat would carry your love way past the wedding day as an amazing part of their wardrobe.
Finishing Details for the Anti-Bride’s Answer to a White Wedding
When the Fit is White, the Jewelry is Made for Color
I’m not usually a bling girl. That is, I’m not drawn to something just ’cause it sparkles and shines. But then your girl saw this GetMan crystal birdcage face veil and fell head over heels! It’s bridal bling with an edge, and couldn’t be more anti-bride if it tried. I love the almost BDSM feel of it, plus paired with the classic lines of the Cushnie suit, it would make one hell of a statement. And at $179, I dare you to find another piece to give you the same kind of impact at this price.
Okay, picture it. This Christie Brown Wax Print Necklace resting against your skin and peeking out the low V-neck of the suit. At 32″ long it would be the only ‘undershirt’ you’d need. Would it be a bit much paired with the crystal face veil? Maybe? Even though I’d probably rock them both, but you feel free to pick and choose. Or, maybe rock the face veil for the ceremony, and switch to this beauty for the reception. At only $70, it’s a super affordable way to switch up your look.
I’m just becoming aware of cuticle/nail jewelry, and it’s rapidly becoming an obsession! I love the way these Unistella pieces fit over the nail bringing in a pop of color. The way they’re layered in the pic, is the exact way I’d wear them for this look. You can check out the gemstone color options on their website, but it wouldn’t matter which one you picked. They’re all so beautiful!
Flowers All Around
Food is life ya’ll. Cake is no exception, especially when it comes to weddings. This one for me embodies the whole sort of classic-with-a-twist vibe this mood board’s got going. The traditional white transitioning to the deep burgundy/red ombre bottom takes this cake by @cakesbytayte to the next level! I even think it could work without the blooms if flowers aren’t your jam. Use a cute Etsy topper instead if that’s more your thing. Either way, this cake is a stunner!
If you’ve been hanging with me for a while, you may have guessed that traditional bouquets aren’t my go to. Nothing against them in theory, I think there’s some stunning bouquets being made out there. But if there’s a way to color outside the lines, then I’m apt to find it. These wreath bouquets are close enough to the norm to fit this anti-bride white wedding theme, but unique enough to make a statement. While I couldn’t find the source for this image, (help me out fellow strange-birds if you know), I did find a nifty link for a DIY version from YouTube Channel Wedding Advice by Pink Book.
I really vibed with the idea of this being an all-pants mood board. Somehow, it was the finishing touch to a playful jab at traditional white weddings. When I saw this top and pants fit from Sika designs, it sealed the deal. I love the way it brings in additional color. Plus, did you see the sweetheart neckline paired with the single puff-sleeve? It’s everything! The top and pants are $187 each, but your bridesmaids will probably thank you for upping their wardrobe.
If Looks Could Kill
There’s nothing like a good shoe. Really, it can make or break an outfit. And this one from Jessica Rich makes this whole frickin’ fit come to life! This beauty is called the Expensive Sandal, and it sure does look hella rich. The clear toe strap and ankle wrap will keep the line of your leg nice and long, while the gold touches will give the pop you need. Best part, this show-stopper is only $215, which is crazy, since this easily looks like an $800 shoe. You’re welcome!
I could wax poetic about Danai Gurira for hours. In the Walking Dead she is iconic, my car is name Okoye based solely off her performance in Black Panther. She is perfection. But even if this image wasn’t of her, this hairstyle would still be everything. You can never go wrong with braids, not ever. But chopping the ends into a blunt bob is next-level classic. You brave ones out there could go full-on Danai, and rock long braids for the ceremony, then have a stylist on standby to chop them short and cropped for the reception. If you do, send me pics, I’d love to see!
